Change APN settings on iPhone

What is APN? The Access Point Name (APN) defines the network path for all cellular-data connectivity. If you want you can see and change the APN for cellular-data services on your iPhone. You can view and change your APN settings only if your carrier allows it. This means if your iPhone uses a SIM card and your carrier allows you to change the APN. In case your APN settings has been set wrong then you might lose cellular-data connectivity and receive additional charges. You should not change the APN unless directed by your carrier. You can contact your carrier to verify the correct APN settings.

Steps to change settings on your iPhone

As mentioned you can see and change the APN settings on your iphone if your carrier allows it by going to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Cellular Network. If you are using your phone outside of the US then you can find your APN settings in Settings > Mobile Data > Mobile Data Options > Mobile Data Network.

Now to change the APN settings, you should tap each field and enter the details from your carrier. Generally the settings would save automatically. You may not change the cellular-data settings depending upon your carrier. If your carrier needs a different APN setting, you might be able to use a configuration profile with the correct setting.

If you are not using a configuration profile then updating iOS resets any modifications made to the APN settings. If you changed your APN settings before you update iOS, then you will find that these settings will reset to the default values. So, you may require to reapply your settings after an iOS update.

Here are the steps you can follow to change your APN settings:

Go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Network > Reset Settings to revert to your carrier's default APN information. In case you installed a configuration profile then the profile's default information will be used instead.

If you are using an iPhone in your office then your IT manager might have set up a special APN for you to use. If this is the situation then you should contact your IT manager to change your APN and not do it yourself. If you make any changes in an APN that an IT manager set for you by using a configuration profile then you can tap Reset Settings to change it back. In your iPhone you can tap the Reset Settings button in Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Network.
